The Church of the Three Crosses is an internationally important architectural site
The church is a major tourist attraction in Imatra. It is also visited by dozens of architecture students from all over the world every year. The church's visitors' book contains several entries for example from Japanese, French and German tourists.
The Church of the Three Crosses (1958) is the most distinctive church designed by Alvar Aalto. The church combines sacral facilities with a variety of recreational facilities. The large church hall can be divided into three parts by large movable walls. At the same time, there can be a church service and a volleyball match. The church's design language is very modern and it is reflected in the altar, the church tower and the layout.
The Church of the Three Crosses is an Alvar Aalto architectural site on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List and is part of the Council of Europe's Alvar Aalto Route. The Church of the Three Crosses is also a cultural and natural site of the Saimaa Geopark.
